i notice that a lot of people say the storyline, and this might just be because i read books as much as i read manga (well a lil less now), but i find i can usually tell whether the story is going to be good from the first 1-5 bubbles, usually simply the first verbose narration box. i guess i never noticed that this is probably quite odd. (i mean i've never got into one piece, and i wasn't that estatic about the first few bubbles (that and there are lots of hats, i don't feel comforatable when i can't see character's hair....))

I can understand this line of thinking with books however it isn't always accurate with manga. With books if I'm not interested in the first chapter then I really don't care very much anymore (the one exception being The Wheel of Time series). Manga on the other hand tends to get better as the story goes on, not just because your getting into the action of it, but because the author/artist is finding the style that works for that particular manga, always making it look better and the characters are constantly become more 3D as the author learns more and more about them as s/he writes them.

Wow... I read the wheel of time, but i had to skip most of the chapters after like the 7th book cause parts of it started to get really boring... But still, a good read.

(topic revival i know dont care)

honestly i don't care too much for art

I go for main characters' personnality. If they have god annoying personnalities i just wanna rape them in the eyes. An example; one of my all time favorites was Tenjou Tenge, and god the art in the starting chapters makes you want to stab yourself, but i adored the plot/characters and stuck with it with unusual enthusiasm til the end :D
